mezzaninesCreate additional storage space and avoid costly facility expansion or relocation. A mezzanine is a raised floor or raised platform constructed in warehouse and distribution facilities to expand storage. By providing two or more platform levels, mezzanines utilize previously unused vertical space in your facility. Types of mezzanines include free standing, shelving or rack supported, and shelving or rack catwalk systems.
A variety of customizable mezzanine accessories are available to ensure the safety and usability of your mezzanine structure: staircases and ladders, handrails, swing gates, sliding gates, and safety gates. Elevators, conveyors and specialized lift equipment move product efficiently between levels. Available flooring systems include plywood decking over b-deck, bar grating and metal plank decking.

Increase your facility’s storage space. Free standing mezzanines are steel structures that serve as a secondary floor between the existing floors of your facility. Structural columns support the secondary level of the free standing mezzanine. The storage space above the main floor is accessed by ladders or stairs.
Create an additional storage level utilizing your shelving or rack system to support a mezzanine floor. Rack or shelving supported mezzanines are often more economical than free standing mezzanines, as they eliminate the need for structural support columns. Rack or shelving supported mezzanines are the best option for operations where material storage is required below the mezzanine level and open space is needed above the mezzanine level.
Add catwalk flooring between the aisles of your shelving or rack system to increase storage space. Rack or shelving supported catwalks are typically the most economical option in providing a second level to your storage system. Catwalk floors are placed only in the aisles between the rack or shelving units on the upper level of the structure. Rack or shelving supported catwalks are the best option for operations where material storage is required on all levels of the system.
Utilize the most common structural roof deck in finishing your mezzanine floor. B decking, also known as b-deck, roof deck or corrugated steel, is strong, economical and light weight. B decking is used as a sub-floor with other surfaces to complete a mezzanine floor surfaced with plywood, resin coated plywood or diamond plate.
Operate pallet jacks and other wheeled equipment on your mezzanine. Plywood decking over metal B deck is economical and provides a smooth surface for moving pallets with a pallet jack. Resin coated plywood decking lowers maintenance and lengthens the life of your mezzanine floor. These options are excellent in applications where either solid flooring is required and/or ventilation is not.
Most durable mezzanine flooring option is diamond plate decking over B decking. Frequently employed in gate areas where material is transferred by forklifts.
Employ bar grating for your mezzanine floor for ventilation, lighting and fire regulation. Bar grating decking is welded and painted steel bars that can be sized to your capacity requirements. This type of decking is not recommended for applications with small parts or pallet jacks, as parts can fall through the flooring and the uneven surface is rough on pallet jacks.
Choose plank decking to floor your mezzanine in outdoor, freezer and wet applications. Metal plank decking made of galvanized metal is perforated to let water, light and air to pass through. Optional serrated surfaces provide exceptional tracking for your harsh environments.
Provide safety for personnel walking along a warehouse mezzanine or catwalk. Mezzanine handrails are designed with rails and/or wire mesh to prevent people, and items from failing over the side.
Reduce the potential for falls and accidents around mezzanine loading areas. Common types of mezzanine gates are swing gates, sliding gates and lift-out gates.
Give personnel easy access to ascend and descend your mezzanine system. Options available include mezzanine staircases with landings, straight run staircases, “L” shaped staircases, “U” shaped staircases. Caged mezzanine ladders are recommended for increased safety. Staircase and ladder treads are available in grated and diamond plate surfaces.
