The Air Force, Ski Resorts, and Mountains — these are among the most famous things associated with the great state of Colorado.
The Air Force: Colorado Springs is home to the United States Air Force Academy. The Academy only takes the best and brightest, training our country’s young men and women to become leaders. Notable Alumni include Chelsey Sullenberger, Bradley Hosmer, Gregg Popovich and dozens of astronauts.
Ski Resorts: One of the more breathtaking features of Colorado is its mountains, and tucked within those mountains are some of the coolest resort towns in the country. Strap yourself into a pair of skis or a snowboard at places like Vail, Breckenridge, Aspen and Telluride.
Mountains: Speaking of mountains, Colorado is home to 75% of the country’s land over 10,000 feet. This feature has made tourism a prominent industry in Colorado for winter sports and sightseeing. The topography also contributed to a gold rush in the 1860s at Pike’s Peak, where thousands of Americans flocked to strike it rich. All in all, Colorado is one of the most unique states of the union.
Don Cheadle – The Academy Award-nominated actor has taken on powerful roles in films such as Boogie Nights and Hotel Rwanda after growing up in Denver. He won an Academy Award for his producer role in 2005’s Crash.
Lindsey Vonn – Vonn’s family moved to Vail so she could concentrate on skiing in the late 90s. And her work paid off, as Vonn won bronze and gold in the 2010 Winter Olympics in the Super-G and Downhill competitions.
Jack Dempsey – A larger than life figure in the 1920s, Dempsey was the World Heavyweight Champion boxer between 1919-1926. He was born in Manassa, and set many attendance records for his fights, earning the first ever million-dollar gate for a fight. Dempsey is considered one of the ten best heavyweights in history.
