Wire Decking
Improve the safety and cleanliness of your storage facility by adding wire deck to your selective pallet rack, wide span shelving, and rivet shelving systems.
Steel Wire Mesh Decking for Pallet Rack Shelving
Wire mesh decking with steel support channels allow for the storage of open case items and pallets of inventory in the same sections of pallet rack. Our new and used wire decking helps protect against falling items that can cause worker injury and product damage. The open mesh also provides additional lighting in dark warehouse aisles to easily identify stored inventory, improve the circulation of heating and cooling, and support the unrestricted flow of sprinkler systems in case of fire. Wire decking is maintenance free and easy to install.

FAQs
Before ordering wire decking, there are a few key measurements you need to identify to ensure a proper fit. First, measure the distance from the outside of the front column to the outside of the rear column of the rack upright, as this determines the required deck depth. Next, measure the horizontal distance of the beam between the two vertical uprights, which establishes the deck width. If you are using roll-formed style pallet rack, you will also need to measure the distance between the beam steps to confirm the correct channel support size.
If you need assistance, our in-house design experts are available to help you determine the proper depth, width, and channel support size for your pallet rack system.
A. Wire deck meshing is available in several styles designed to accommodate different storage needs, including standard double waterfall, single waterfall, inside waterfall, and drop-in options.
Each style varies in how the wire mesh interacts with pallet rack beams and the type of inventory it best supports.
Waterfall decking includes both single and double waterfall designs. Single waterfall decking features wire mesh bent 90 degrees at the front, resting on the outside of the pallet rack beam. This design improves stability, prevents shifting, and eliminates front crevices where materials could snag. It is a more economical choice than double waterfall decking and works best for inventory that is not stored deep within the rack. Double waterfall decking has wire mesh bent 90 degrees at both the front and back, allowing it to rest on the outside of both pallet rack beams. This style offers maximum versatility and is suitable for virtually all types of inventory.
Drop-in decking includes flush and inside waterfall styles. Flush decking has wire mesh that ends flush with the channel, allowing it to drop directly into the pallet rack beam step and create a seamless surface. It is commonly used for heavy inventory because it keeps beam capacity labels visible and can make storing and picking faster for high-turnover products. This style typically requires mechanical fastening to the beam step for proper installation. Inside waterfall decking is similar to flush decking but includes wire mesh bent 90 degrees at both the front and back so it sits inside the beam step. Like flush decking, it must be mechanically fastened, but it offers less load capacity than flanged waterfall designs.
Wire decking also varies by channel support style. Universal, flange, or flared channels are identified by flattened wings that extend beyond the width of the U-channel at each end, allowing the flanges to rest on top of the rack beams. This versatile option fits all beam types, including 1 5/8-inch step, 3/4-inch step, box, and structural beams. A 1 5/8-inch step channel is designed specifically to fit a 1 5/8-inch beam step, while a 3/4-inch step channel fits a 3/4-inch beam step. U-channels are identified by their standard U shape, whereas inverted U-channels feature an upside-down U design that prevents dust and debris from collecting inside the channel. This makes inverted U-channels a requirement for food and beverage storage environments.
A. Most standard wire deck is available in a 2” x 4” pattern with 6 gauge wire, but many other patterns and gauges are also available. Our in-house design experts can help select the right product at the right price for your specific application based on capacity, product to be stored, picking method, and budget.
A. The most common type of accessories are wire deck dividers. You can use these dividers to create product storage lanes from front to back, side to side. Middle dividers allow picking from both sides of the rack. Wire deck back stops keep product from falling off the back of the pallet rack.
